One of the unfortunate features of social media is that it often rewards volume over substance and certainty over thoughtful consideration. People who once might have struggled to find an audience for their pronouncements, now have an entire platform on which to broadcast them. Having a voice is not the same thing as having something worthwhile to say.
The loudest voice isn’t necessarily the most informed, and the most strongly stated conviction doesn’t always reflect the soundest judgment. Social media has simply given a much larger audience to people who twenty years ago might have been standing on a courthouse square, shouting their opinions and passing out homemade manifestos.
