Borderline, In B Major
I turn down the lights so that you can see the stars
You think that I hung the moon there for you
It was just a silver sliver hanging in the sky
Who knew that it would make you cry?
I pull back the shades to let the light in
You see me in a view that is hardly true
It is just the absence of shadow, shine
Who knew that for it you would pine?
I led you just so that you would not fall
You think for you was paved this avenue
It is just a path I once traveled along
Who knew that for it too you would long?
I sang a song to simply pass the time
You say the lyrics caused you to be blue
It is simply a ballad of love gained, lost
Who knew for you it would extract a cost?
I spoke just merely to clear the air
You ascribed to me far more than I am due
It is a speech that I can now barely recall
Who knew for it you would give all?
I read to you of she who wrote love on her arms
Her story so horribly did you misconstrue
It is a story of courage, of hope, of faith
Who knew you would pen a story of loathing, self-hate?
